7-Card Stud
The traditional 7-card stud poker game is a very popular form of poker that is still commonly played today. 7-card Stud is played with 2 to 8 players, and it is most usually played with a fixed-limit for betting, although people will play it as a spread-limit game. First, all players ante up, and there are five betting rounds that take place.
Seven-card stud is usually played with an ante, or bet. Different card games have different antes. An example of this would be a $1 ante; Which is common in a $10-$20 game. But another common ante would be $0.25 for a $1-$2 game. Some places do not even play with an ante.
After everyone antes, or places their bets, all players are dealt two cards face down. These are known as hole cards. And then they are dealt one exposed card. The person with the lowest card has to 'bring in' and has to bet half the small bet if it is played fixed-limit. Players can then, raise, call, or fold.
After an exposed card is dealt to each player, this is followed with a round of betting. The person with the best exposed hand begins the betting. After an exposed card is dealt to each player, this is followed with a round of betting. If the game is played as a fixed-limit game then this is where the really big betting would come in.
Again, an exposed card is dealt to each player, followed with a round of betting.
Finally, each player is dealt a final hole card, followed by the final round of betting.
If the game has 8 players, sometimes there aren't enough cards left in the deck to deal each player a final hole card. In this case a card is placed on the board and it is considered 'shared' by all the players. This is a bit similar to a community card in Texas Hold'em.
In 7-card stud the pair of sevens does not count. There is not a “three pair” in 7-card stud, because only the best five-card poker hand matters.
