Poker Gameplay
Draw poker is cited as being any variation on the game that is known basically as Poker. In these games a number of players are dealt a complete hand before the first round of betting, and then the players try to attain a winning hand for later rounds by replacing cards in their hands.
Here is a basic description of game play to make sure that you are familiar with the general rules of Poker, and with hand values. In home games, it is quite normal to use an ante, and betting always starts with the player to the dealer's left. In casino play, blinds are commonly used, so the first betting round begins with the player to the left of the big blind, and subsequent rounds begin with the player to the dealer's left, so this means that position is very important in the game. Let’s look at basic Five-card Draw.
Five-card draw is one of the poker card games that is popular mainly for the home card games you and your card playing buddies have every Friday night. And this is usually the first variation learned by most people. It is very common in home games, but very rare in casino and tournament play. The “lowball” poker games make more interesting games and are the games that are usually played in casinos.
Home games typically use an ante, and the first round of “ante-ing up” begins with the player to the dealer's left, and the second round starts with the player who started the first round.
The game starts with each player being dealt five cards, all of the cards face down, and one at a time. The rest of the deck is placed aside, and very often protected by placing a chip or some other sort of marker on it. Players can then pick up their cards and hold them in their hands, and always be careful to keep them concealed from the other players, then a round of betting happens at this point.
If ther is more than one player remaining in the game after the first round, then it’s time for players to ‘draw’ cards. Each player states how many of his or her cards he or she wishes to replace, and then discards them. The remainder of the deck is taken and after a ‘burn card’ is dealt each player is dealt in turn from the deck the same number of cards he or she discarded so that each player still has only five cards. Discarded cards should be laid aside first beore replacement cards are dealt.
Afer “the draw" a round of betting again starting with the player to the dealer's left or else starting with the player whom opened the first round. (This is the most common pratice in home games.) This is followed by a showdown if more than one-playeris left in the game, and at this point the player with the best hand wins the pot.
